✈️First international trip checklist
Going abroad multiplies the paperwork: six months of passport validity, a visa per head, money that works overseas and a phone that does too. Split the jobs across the group and it's an evening's work; leave it to one friend and it's a week's.
Documents
Passport valid for 6 months beyond the return date
Most countries refuse entry otherwise; renew early.
Visa or e-visa
Check the current rule for your destination; apply 2–4 weeks out and carry the printout.
Travel insurance with medical cover
Overseas medical care is expensive; buy a policy that covers the whole trip.
Copies of the passport
One photocopy in each bag and a scan in the cloud.
International Driving Permit if you'll drive
Apply on parivahan.gov.in against your Indian licence, then go to your RTO in person for verification (₹1,000 plus user charges, valid one year, recognised in 150+ countries). Rental desks abroad ask for it alongside the original licence.
Money
Forex or multi-currency card
Load it before departure and keep a little local cash for arrival.
Health
Vaccinations and health declarations
Yellow-fever certificate for parts of Africa and South America; check any arrival declaration forms.
Safety
Save the Indian embassy contact
Address and emergency number of the nearest Indian mission.
Gear
Travel adapter
A universal adapter with USB ports; check the destination's plug type.
Transport
Online check-in and the airport transfer
Check in 24–48 h ahead and know how to get from the airport to the stay.
Connectivity
International roaming or an eSIM
Airalo/Holafly eSIM or the operator's roaming pack; otherwise switch data roaming off.
Niklo suggests this checklist when your destinations are outside India.
Tick it off as a crew, not alone.
Put this checklist on a Niklo trip and every item gets an owner, a due state and a crew that can see it — next to the itinerary, the map and the money.
