🏍️Motorcycle trip checklist
Bike trips run on discipline: gear on every ride, sane daily distances, and a convoy that agrees its rules before the first toll. The machine matters less than the plan — spares, straps and a jerrycan cover most of what the road throws at you.
Documents
Rental agreement and RC photos
Photograph the bike from all sides at pickup, plus the agreement and RC; check the rental covers the states you are entering.
Papers for every bike
DL, RC, insurance and PUC per machine — DigiLocker or mParivahan copies are legally valid at checks. Riding a friend's bike? Carry their RC and a simple authorisation note.
Health
Plan sane riding days
Under 250 km a day on mountain roads and a stop every 90 minutes.
Safety
Learn the roadside fixes
A puncture, chain slack and a flooded carburettor are the three things that stop a ride.
Agree the group riding rules
Lead and sweep riders, hand signals and a regroup point if anyone falls behind.
Gear
Full riding gear
Helmet with a clear visor, armoured riding jacket, gloves, knee guards and boots that cover the ankle.
Basic tool kit and spares
Spark plug, clutch and accelerator cables, spare tube or tubeless kit, chain lube and a foot pump.
Luggage straps and a rain cover
Bungee cords or ROK straps with a saddlebag; dry bags for anything electronic.
Balaclava, thermals and waterproof layers
Wind chill at 60 km/h turns 10 °C into freezing.
Transport
Fuel jerrycan for the long stretches
5 L covers the gaps where pumps are 150 km apart.
Share the luggage across bikes
Rented bikes have weight limits; nobody should ride with a full backpack on their back.
Niklo suggests this checklist for motorcycle tours — rentals or your own machines.
Tick it off as a crew, not alone.
Put this checklist on a Niklo trip and every item gets an owner, a due state and a crew that can see it — next to the itinerary, the map and the money.
